Where do they stand in terms of laptops for Dell? I never see anyone getting any. There's one with a TK-53 (1.7ghz), 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, and DVD burner going for $500. Is that a really good deal or just slightly good?

I haven't seen it, but I think it's an Inspiron 1501 painted black.
Anyway, it's probably alright for the price.
If the Vostro 1400 or 1500 is in the budget, I'd prefer that, but if you're strapped for cash, it looks alright.

This is extremely budget... well for my girlfriend, who only has a budget of less than 600. How's the TK-53 perform? And I want to know if this is a good deal. The closest 1501, specwise, is $600 though.

I think... it's at least as good a deal as anything else you can get for $500.
