    Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my Vostro 1400, and I'm wondering if it is normal or not...

At the beginning and often the end of an audio "track" or "stream", I get a "tick" noise. This only happens with the headphone jacks.

For example, when a Vista sound plays (with nothing else playing in the background), the tick is audible.

The "tick" or "pop" basically happens at the beginning and end of any audio stream, whether that stream is a 2 second audio clip or a 2 hour song.

I take it this isn't normal?

    *bump*

Another user on the forum told me that, if they are to repair it, they would change the whole motherboard.

Would you guys recommend just using the warranty down the road to do this, and exchange it now? I wouldn't mind exchanging it, but I'm just afraid I will get stuck with an AUO screen. If that were to happen, can I ask for another exchange (claiming another problem with the laptop)?

What software are you using to play the audio? May be your audio source or the software if it doesn't happen to windows sounds.

It happens to all sounds. Windows sounds, music, anything... And only with the audio jacks.

Sorry, somehow I read it as not with windows sounds...

Might be able to get away with front audio jack replacement, but if Dell wont do that then probably only a mobo replace will fix it....

If you are really scared of getting an AUO (and I can't blame you for being so) I would see if maybe you can get Dell to garauntee that they will send you back the same unit with a new mobo/audio jack. I would think they will if you send it in for repair.

With a full replacement there is a pretty decent chance you will get something wrong either with the screen or with some other part of the laptop (so much to go wrong).
