    I need a utility that can check SMART status and other information on my Vostro's 1400 hard drive (Toshiba MK1637GSX).

    Something other than Windows' Scandisk...

    SpeedFan can, it also opens a web page reviewing the SMART data it got from your drive with statistics for that model.
