I've just got a Vostro 1400, and I'm quite disappointed about the fan running constantly - even at low CPU-temperatures (29 degrees celcius, 90 degrees fahrenheit).

Is there something wrong with my Vostro, or are you experiencing the same thing?

I've got the 2.1 GHZ T7100 processor, 2GB ram and the GeForce 128MB graphics card.

Mine works perfectly... only when i put it on some non-ventilated place, or when the surface block the coolers entrances (above the note) is that the fans run constantly).

Btw, the correct speed for the T7100 is 1.8 , not 2.1 ...

I did of course mean T8100.

Still, I haven't found a solution to this problem.

As said, it also behaves this way when the laptop runs in Power Saver mode. Right now the core temp of the first CPU is 29 degrees celcius, and still the fan runs.

I've removed some bloatware from the laptop, could it be that I've removed some temperature adjusting software aswell? (I think there was an option to choose "Dell Adjusted" in when I clicked the battery in the lower right corner when I first installed it?)

Could anyone with a Vostro please check? :)

I got a 1400 with T8100 too, but X3100 integrated graphics. The fan does not run in idle when i do REALLY NOTHING. But when i open the browser and surf the web a little bit, the fan starts running even in PowerSave Mode and lower temps.

On my Vostro 1500 the fan sets in only at high temps.

I think the 1400 Bios has other temp-timings for the fan - so it sets in more often. My Vostro 1500 has a very old Bios... My 1400 is brand new.

You can use http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html this tool to control the fan and set you own temp-rules.
