    Is there any difference between brands in terms of performance in the Vostro 1400 family?

    I tried running benchmarks but I get really odd results so I can't trust them...

    there most likely is. sony, as far as ive heard, makes bad harddrives, but i dont think dell uses sony.

    hitachi 7k200 series would be the best.

    Yeah they are 5400 drives, at the moment I have one toshiba and one that shows up as STSxxxx I think... I will have ot double check when I get home...
