Hey all. Just received my Vostro 1400 about 2 hours ago. Wiped all partitions clean with kill disc and am now installing xp on a fresh drive. So far, it hauls. I got an SEC screen. Horizontal viewing angles are spectacular. Vertical is nothing surprising. Ive had two 1520's in the past, the "grain" and light bleed is on par with those, nothing different. Leads me to believe that this is just the way true life lcd's are manufactured. (The two 1520's I had were both AUO's

My question is, this is a tension screen hinge, unlike the 1520 which is a latch hinge. When I open this screen up, It has about 1/2-1 inch of "loosness", which the 1520's didnt have. Again, only when it's open. All 4 hinge screws are tight. I believe this is just a part of the tensioning within the hinge.

Anyone else have this issue, just curious?

    Thanks,
    sOnIc

It has nothing to do with Trulife and everything to do with AUO, CMO, and even Samsung. I wouldn't take anything at this point that isn't an LG.

So I popped open the bezel above the keyboard and took off the hinge covers. The hinges are solid connected to the base. No play in them at all. The wobbliness is inside of the hinge tension itself. Does anyone else have this problem when their screen is in the open position, theres about an inch of 'looseness' if I pull it forward. When shut though it's tight to the bottom.

Please put my mind at ease.

same issue with the vostro I have. I posted elsewhere too but if you look at the hinges after removing the hinge cover, you will see nuts, you can tighten these to tighten the lid when opening and closing..

    I had hinge issues myself.

If you had the same hinges that my 1520 has which are well bull **** to be honest, tightening that nut won't work at all. Just get on the phone and demand they send you out new hinges, and put them in yourself.

The new hinges I received were way stronger and well SILENT, unluke the other creeky ones.

Just about every smaller Dell laptop I had the liberty of seeing today had the same hinge issue, even the lid locking ones. The 1520 didn't, a lenovo t61p 15" didnt either. I wonder if it's just smaller Dell laptops that have the looseness in the lid.

My Vostro 1400 does not appear to have this problem. The hinge is solid, there is no 'looseness' or whatever you may want to call it.

Most ppl Ive talked to have the issue, but until I get my hand on another Vostro 1400 and give it a shake, it sort of bothers me that mine doesnt have even resistance...
