why don´t you take a look at the ram yourself ?
do you feel bold enough to open your laptop and take a look inside ?

if you don´t want to open it, you can use everest to show you all the necessary information on your notebook. you can even see if there is one ram-stick installed or two.

Just use everest, it will show you if you've got two 512 sticks or one 1gb stick....

Most probably you will have two 512, as dell usually sells ram in dual channel mode (two sticks that are the same to give a little extra boost through the dual channel)

It's always 2 Dimm with Dell, and all the other popular brands.

If you want to upgrade to 2gb your best bet is to actually just get 1x2gb stick and pull one 512 stick. The price will be the same, but you will actually have 2.5gb in the end...and if you ever want to upgrade to 4gb...your already half way there with the 2gb stick.

Thats a really good point! However, it won't run in dual channel on anything but the first gig. How will that affect performance?

Also... what happens if you mix different ram maker's sticks... is there a possibility you'll run into interoperability problems?

This is a great idea by the way... and also saves people from having to take apart their keyboard to get to that second ram stick.
