I need your assistance. I purchased a Vostro 1400 with the T5470 processor. When I tried using VMWare to create a 64 bit OS, I am getting an error message stating that the Operating System I am using does NOT support 64 bit OS. After some additional research, I discovered that the Core 2 T5470 does NOT support INTEL VT (Virtualization Technology) but the Core 2 T7000 series does support INTEL VT. Without VT, I can create 64 bit OS in VMWare.

What options do I have? I received my Vostro 1400 last week, is there anyway I can have Dell upgrade my processor?

Call them up--maybe you can work something out. It's the best thing you can do right now.

It's really hard to say as every Rep will give you a difference response, so a similar experience for us may not be the same for you.

dell gives you a 30 day satisfaction guarantee on their vostro line. call them up and explain the situation and they will issue a return for the laptop and let you order a new one.

dell will not let you upgrade it. well you could, but you would pay full price of the processor. your best bet is to return it and order another.
