Happen to get both, so I had a chance to compare and take pictures side by side. I know I was puzzled which one to get, so.. hopefully those of you who are trying to decide may find this info useful.

I described my experience in details here: http://www.vadimonline.com/dell-vostro-1400-wxga-vs-xwga-truelife/
(I also posted ICM profiles created by Spyder2 colorimeter for both panels, if you happen to have the same panel and would like to improve the colors - feel free to download those)

But here is the short summary:

    1. WXGA (matte) is *significantly* brighter
    2. WXGA (matte) has much better viewing agles
    3. WXGA+ TrueLife feels like a desktop PC monitor in terms of amount of room, font size not too small and I wish the screen was better quality - I'd definitely keep it

If this helps at all, let me state this for the records - I wouldn’t say that I *hated* the TrueLife… During the two weeks I worked with it I really got used to it, and I'm sure I would have been happy with it if I didn't have another option... it just so happened that i did :)

imo the reason i think i should have went matte is due to the fact i think i have only seen 1 person who said they had a bad screen or color issues... other than that every person i see that ordered matte has been very happy with it
