Ok need help here. I'm ordering a lappy for a friends daughter and I'm trying to get all the logistics down. I've got the 1500 all configured out and the total with everything is 711 tax included. Now if I did the same with the 1400 the price is 722. Now the only difference between the two is that 1400 has vista and 1500 has XP. Now why cant I get the XP on the 1400. Only reason I chose the 1500 right now is because you can get XP with it. I heard horror stories with Vista and I don't want my friends daughter dealing with that crap so I wanted to get XP for her. Then again this will be her first laptop too and I guess the 1500 is heavier then the 1400 but again vista versus xp. So any thoughts on what I can do??? Can I call and ask for xp on the 1400???? Thanks all.

Call 'em up. Alls they can do is say no which puts you back where you started.

You might want to check the Dell outlet. They have some D630s starting for a little bit more than what you are paying now. Many of them come with XP already. It's a better built notebook with a three year warranty.

You can try calling them and asking for XP on the 1400. But I don't think that's really necessary. My gf just received an Vista 1400, and with only 1gb of ram it's running very nicely. It has absolutely no bloatware as apposed to the inspiron line, so it runs very well.

As of apparently this very moment, Dell.com has Vostro 1400's with an XP option.

And of course, I ordered my 1400 2 days ago, wishing I could get it with XP.

Sweet. Could always cancel and order the XP version. The D630s were starting at $730.
