I've read that they are essentially the same notebook technically speaking. I just want to know what are everyone's opinions on these two notebooks. Which has better build quality? I know that I prefer the black keypad of teh Vostro than Dell's traditional silver keypad.

Can someone please make my decision a little less confusing?

Also, all this talk about grainy screens is making me paranoid and worried. I want this to be the *perfect* notebook. Can't I specifically contact Dell to fit my LCD with a CMO panel? (btw, I am getting a 1280x800 WXGA TrueLife panel for either notebooks)

They are physically essentially the same, apart from colour. When deciding, look at several things:

    • Think up the laptop specs you want, and find which of the Vostro or Inspiron ends up cheaper with these specs.
    • Compare the default warranty and warranty upgrade options between the two (very important!)
    • Find coupons to apply to each and see which ultimately ends up cheaper.

Seriously, that's all I did and at the time found a particular Vostro cheaper but the Inspiron had better warranty options. Fast forward one month and the Vostro has better warranty options (for my country anyway).

It depends on the model and what country you're ordering in, so spend a night spec'ing systems and comparing prices.
