The price went up because of the 2GB of ram. The old config I wanted only had 1GB. Is it possible to return the 2GB of ram once I receive the laptop? I'm going to buy and install my own ram separately.

Why wouldn't you just configure it with 1GB and then buy an extra 1GB instead of worrying about returns? You can't return memory, you'd have to sell it on eBay or in the BST forum on this site.
-
When I configure it the same way with the basic configuration, the price comes out much higher than the smart configuration. I read threads on another forum of people returning warranties, ram, lojack, etc, so I was wondering if I could return the ram.
And in case I misread your post: I configured the laptop with the Smart Configuration, which starts off at 2GB ram. -
Bump.. Is there any coupons I can use or is this the lowest price I can get this configuration for? Less than a month ago this would of cost almost 200 less.
-
1. Don't configure with Smart Config if that's going to be a problem.
2. Dell releases coupons for Vostros less often than for Inspirons. If you wait, you might get lucky, or configure a similar Inspiron 1420. -
-
The Inspiron 1420 costs about $20 less with the same config, but it also has 1GB less ram. I'm using the $200 off coupon. Is there anyway I can get a better deal?
-
Wait for the prices to drop, or for a better coupon.

Hmmm. I ordered pretty much the exact config you listed on the 17th of December for $850 (2 year warranty and free shipping) - that is the lowest it was for the config I wanted. IIRC it was $460 off instantly.
Seriously, I cannot imagine Dell made any money off of that other than the $80 warranty upgrade.
At the most, it looks like the price went up $50 - you just need to play with the various options there. -
Look at my sig and what I paid..... This is after dell gave me all the discounts....I'm sure they made something off me to offer me a well loaded vostro for around $500 with 2 year onsite repair. -
It's because theres a new 1425 coming out in 4 weeks before the new 1525 - it's all being discontinued besides for the 1720 for now. I saw one in Staples just an hour ago. The keyboard was back lit and it came in like a bunch of colors and it was a wedge shape like the new XPS's but thicker. the touch pad was also back lit all around the edge and the scroll lines. and it only weighs like maybe 4 - 5 pounds. It looked so awesome.. It was only $699. All silver on the inside and black base with the colored lids. How many people actually believed that? LOL!
