    Vostro 1400 smart value package rose $100 (Vostro 1500 unchanged)

    Just thought I'd post for the benefit of anyone torn between the Vostro 1400 and 1500: it appears that the Vostro 1400 smart value package (the configuration in my signature) now costs $100 than before.

    So, barring anyone badly needing the extra portability, it seems that the Vostro 1500 is now the much better deal.

    Edit: I think the 1700 also rose in price, as the current price seems high at $899, though I'm not positive.

    Yesterday I was going to change my order to remove the $30 webcam upgrade and get the Intel wireless card, then the price went up in the 20 minutes it took me to drive home. Guess I am going to have to learn to love the webcam now :)

    That wouldn't surprise me...for about a week the smart value package cost $649, then without any announcement from Dell it dropped to $599 for about half a week, and now its risen to $699.

    Strange, but having ordered mine while it was $599, I can't complain. :)

    And, unfortunately, the Vostro 1400 smart value package no longer includes the 9-cell battery (a $40 upgrade).

    You're forgetting the brief (several hours) time period yesterday when the smart value package was down to $589 before it rose to the current $699. :rolleyes:

    Huh...I didn't even know about that. Dell sure is erratic with their pricing.

    Then again, I suppose they are the company that offers perpetual $300 or $350 off $1200 or higher coupons.

    I guess that means that, by a slight amount, I didn't get the best deal on my Vostro 1400 :p

    I feel burned by missing out on that $10 too :cool: That extra $10 saving is what convinced me to get the Intel wireless instead of the webcam, until I got home too late to change the order :)
