As of what seems to be this very moment, 1400's are being offered with an XP option on dell.com

Which pisses me off because I just ordered one with Vista two days ago. I wanted XP, but this wasn't an option. This happen to anyone else?

I'm wondering if I can get this changed before it ships on Friday the 30th.

Should I get it changed? I'm going to mostly be doing everyday stuff on it and am very accustom to XP. However, I realize it will be something like $299 to upgrade in the future. Opinions?

It's about time they made XP an option on the 1400!

The only thing I like out of this is that Dell will now officially have to support their Vostro 1400 with XP :). Meaning drivers must now be officially supported to be compatible with XP and so on.... (even though drivers worked, since Dell did not offer XP on 1400, they did not support it, now they have to).

Awesome news of us XP lovers.

Yeah, and the lastest on the SP for Vista is that its not going to do much at all for performance. I believe the SP3 for XP will boost it up another 10 percent. There is a bunch of articles just came out today showing that XP is significantly faster.. heres one: http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=204203975

My advice is call the the modify department at dell.. they might be able to keep your system/coupons etc.. intact and just change the OS... It will probably delay your system a bit but that way you can keep any discounts you might be worrying about losing.

 Rats... I begged for XP on a 1400 a few months ago, and they wouldn't do it. So I got the 1500. Oh well, I guess the slightly larger screen is easier to read anyway

So now that Microsoft must officially support it, would it be wise of me to just leave the not-yet-shipped order with Vista and switch to XP in the future if I need it? See how I like Vista maybe? (I've never used it)

Or should I save myself the hassle of having to install XP later by calling them up and having it switched before it ships, and upgrade to Vista later if I need it?

Btw, this machine is shipping with a Dual 2.0ghz T7250 and 2GB RAM.
