Vostro 1400 with XP

I noticed that some of the new vostros come with XP as an option but the 1400 doesn't currently have this option. Does anyone know if it will come will this option eventually?
Will it atleast have drivers on the website for xp?

Hey, I was just thinking and I realized that there are windows XP drivers on their website for the inspiron 1420. And since these two models are basically the same thing, wouldn't those work for the 1400?

 

techinically yes, but i think you'd lose the mediadirect function. i think the one in the vostros has a few more functions (like calendar, contacts, etc), correct me if i'm wrong.

 

has anyone tried installing XP on Vostro 1400? The Dell website DOES offer XP drivers for V 1400 (here's the link). But, has anyone really tried it?

I need something light-weight. But, because only V 1500 (15.4") comes with XP, i have no choice but to go with this 6.3lbs+ laptop

Vostro 1500 comes with win xp, and most of the parts are same vostro 1400 you can the drivers frm there. This is how i install drivers for win xp on my Vostro 1400.
This is because currently Dell does not provide vostro 1400 drivers for display,sound and wireless for win xp.

Have you successfully change the OS to Windows XP on Vostro 1400. I am trying to load Xp and facing driver modem issues. appreciate your help

i installed xp on a 1400 last week.. we got everything working except the modem..

the video was real tricky.. i had to use generic drivers with a hacked ini file..

but then, someone hit the media direct button and it messed up the video drivers i guess.. we need to get it from him and look at it..

 

I successfully upgraded my Vostro 1400 to XP Professional yesterday. Search this forum, there are at least two threads on how to do it, with links to all the drivers and step by step instructions. XP works 100% on 1400.

 

When I ordered my 1500 over the phone, I asked if any amount of begging and pleading would help me get a 1400 with XP. I was told that they just don't make them that way. I'd have to install XP on it myself. That's why a got the 1500.

 

Ditto, except I was ordering a 1400. They said that some Vostros come with XP and some don't, and the 1400 was one of the ones that does not come with XP.
