    Hi guys,

I recently petitioned Dell to replace my 1400 that has a wxga+ (1440x900) screen in it because I had 2 bad screens in a row (had original replaced on-site 2 days after I received it). Both screens had horribly bad light leakage and extremely narrow viewing angles..and one of them was very dim.

Anyhow, I got them to send me a new unit with the standard wxga (1280x800) screen because I had heard far fewer complaints about the quality of that screen on these boards. Can anyone with the standard screen chime in and confirm that there are indeed fewer problems with the lower resolution screen? I'm hoping I get a lcd with very light to no grain, bright and vibrant and minor light leakage. I really hope I get a decent one this time, I'm weary of calling Dell and going through several long holds to get anything resolved and would like to just start enjoying my new machine.

    Thanks!

I was under the impression was with the glossy-coated screens (I think Dell calls them TrueLife or something). I didn't think the problem existed with the matte screen (which only comes in WXGA). That sucks that you have to go through that much trouble, you think Dell would start doing some QA before they send 'em out, saves everyone a lot of time, money and hassle.

That said, my 1400 came with a beautiful WXGA+ screen the first time, and to me it was worth the extra couple of bucks.
