I have the Vostro 1400 laptop. I installed Roxio Easy Media Creator v.8 and 9 and both have issues when I try to burn data on a CD-R(W) or a DVD-R(W). The Drag to Disc software works fine on my XP desktop but it seem to have compatibility issues with Vista. The result is that I cant write data on a existing support with data on it without formating the CD and erasing everything on it. I also cant write on data discs made on my laptop with my XP desktop and vice versa.

All I want is to be able to use data discs (CD-R(W) and DVD-R(W)) like I did with floppy disc and burn on both my systems without issues.

Any of you got a solution for me?

Vista has native packet-writing, so you shouldn't need Drag-to-Disc, InCD, and the like.

personally i really dont like roxio.. its bloated and imo it just doesnt perform well..

i normally prefer nero the most but as roxio its huge and bloated... even when installing just what you want to.. it still is ridiculous...

as the above poster mentioned you may have some issues with vista and drag to disc..vista also though has built in burning.. you can easily simply use the send to function and send what you want to the cd/dvd it will close the session though when you are done so if you want to add more later you will not be able to ...

one program i find that is just simply awesome.. is (and i hate most of their programs otherwise) is ashampoo burning suite version 7... that simply rocks... you can very easily add files to your disc without it closing the session so you can add to it later if you want...

actually i wanted to backup my pioneer nav discs.. they are a dual layer 7.2 gb disc... i tried EVERYTHING including nero, dvd decrypter, image burn, alch 120%, burrrn, roxio, the only program that allowed me to make consistant backups was ashampoo with no errors... it has not failed me yet maybe something to look into...

I didn't say he'd have "issues"; I said he shouldn't need the 3rd party packet writing programs, because Vista has native packet writing. You absolutely can add files, delete them, etc, just like you can with Drag-to-Disc, InCD, etc. For more on the Vista "Live File System", see:

KrazyTrucka,cell323, would you mind test your 1400 for its wi-fi catcher function in power off status and let us know whether it's functioning in power off? thanks.
