The Vostro 1500 configured with a 8600M GT (or heck even with the 8400GS) sounds like a really good deal.

What's the catch? Is it a really bad LCD? Are they underclocking the vid? I note that it costs a lot to upgrade the CPU... In order to keep a friend of mine in budget we'd have to go with the 1.6 dual core rather than any higher, unless we wanted to do with the 8400GS and get a faster CPU. Still, how do they do it?
I've been leading him towards ASUS before, because of their build equality etc. there's no way we could get an ASUS with those specs for that price.

But neither have as good of video card as you can get with the Dell. On the other hand, I think they might have a better LCD. Hard choice...

I think the catch is that dell laptops (save for xps) look horrible. But as far price goes, they can't be beat.
But seriously, dell laptops look horrible. So bad, in fact, that whoever is responsible for designing them should be taken outside and . . . . -
