I received my Vostro 1500 today....decided I hated XP and formatted it. I am installing using a XP Pro CD with Service Pack 2. After installing all the drivers and getting rid of all of the exclamation and question marks I still have one major issue....no acpi....says the computer is a standard computer....

This means that when I unplug the power from the wall XP never knows it....I don't get to set the power stuff up and do not have hibernation support.

After doing some googling it seems that you can force it to a different HAL during the initial boot of XP by pressing F5. I attempted this and it still will not let me select a ACPI compliant machine...

Does anyone have any clues here????? I dunno if I can just call Dell up and pay the difference and get a copy of XP Pro that will work....but it seems it would be a driver or bios issue.

    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you need to install Dell Notebook System Software. It is required for Dell PCs, downloadable at support.dell.com
