FIRST OFF: I am sorry if this is not the place to post but there are a few things I would like to cover and i believed this was the most appropriate place. If not please move the thread.
It has been almost a month now since I recieved my Vostro 1500(in Japan). I recieved it within 8 days of ordering it, which I was astonished after viewing waits for similar/same models in North America.
Specs :
15.4 WXGA+ the glossy screen.. sry Im canadian but i dont know the words for it in english![]()
T7100 Core 2 duo
Geforce 8600m GT 256mb
1GB ram
9Cell battery
120gb 5400rpm hd
Windows Xp home sp2
My screen manufacturer that I checked AFTER noticing the screen had no graininess unless you touch your nose to the screen had it identified as pnp, could someone clarify the actual brand. I BELIEVE I checked it properly meaning I may have made an error. My battery has no lose wobling, VERY minimal back light leakage, actually better then an apple monitor that I previously owned, the only problem being the sound with the headphones.
It would be great if someone could clarify which brand uses the id PNP.
I am running a Japanese os and sadly I cannot read it all, I can only read hiragana and katagana (basic alphabets) but no Kanjii (chinese characters) so I am having a bit of trouble with a couple things that I hope you could clarify as well.
1. Upgrade my Graphics card driver, I dont know it by heart or know how to find it in japanese, and it would actually be great if it were possible to remove it and replace it with english, or if it is possible to convert to enligsh.
2. I would like to connect to wifi around my house but the windows wifi part has an red X over it and I am not sure how to enable it, the Dell intel proset wireless works fine.
I am not technologically slow, I actually overclock etc but the problem is the language, those are things i am not use to as I never have been a big fan of wireless until now since i would be able to have a connection at home (2 month installation still waiting) and drivers i have not memorized by heart.
I have to admit, I have avoided Dell for over 10 years and as I was on a 10000 yen budget ($800 american or so) I had no other choice for bang for the buck. The notebook is running better then most computers ive seen around that usually come at over double or triple the price.
Thank You
If anyone could help, once again SORRY if it is in the wrong place and may I request if it is moved.
Cheers

If you can get hold of an English OS installation disk then you can install English edition; Japanese key will work. Or if you have Vista Ultimate edition, then you can change the language without reinstalling : Windows Vista Ultimate language pack.
PNP stands for Plug and Play, all LCDs are listed as a Generic Plug & Play Monitor under control panel, to see the actual manufacturer you will have to go in a little bit deeper in to the system properties. Right click on the PNP Monitor and get the Properties (usually the last option of RMB menu in English edition) > Details Tab (3rd tab) > select the second option in the drop down (listed as Hardware ID in English edition), if you selected the correct list item, then it should display something like MONITOR\XXXXXX in text box underneath. Part denoted by XXXXXX gives the actual manufacturer. Let us know what comes after MONITOR\. -
Im sorry i feel like a putz but could you explain how to get to the pnp spot
Im sorry I personally cant believe what a month without a computer can make you forget
Nevermind hahaha ... Im sorry -
The Number after the Monitor/ is LPLDF00

Thank you VERY much, I am actually very relieved to not have gotten an AUO screen.
Thank you for the laptopvideo2go link but since I am running on a japanese os should i delete every trace of the old driver and then install the english one from the site? if so could you run through how to do it, ( which buttons and where they are placed) since i cant read it. Once again thank you very much

Hey how's life in tokyo X2P
Maybe you could get someone who read japanese to do configuration. You can go by icons because those icons stay the same regardless what language of OS you're running. But changing to english platform seems the best choice. -
Sorry if this really has nothing to do with this thread, but how do you check the manufacterer of your screen?
