I got my vostro today after a 2 week wait. My first impression is that it looks a lot bulky and feels sturdy. I had a hp dv 6000t and a vaio FZ before. I am going to give some of my initial pros and cons of this vostro 1500. This vostro is definitely heavy (than hp and sony).
Pros:
1. Vista business loads much faster (beacause of zero trialware/start up junkware) than the hp and sony.
2. The keyboard feels rock solid. But it's a little bit wide for me, might get used to it.
3. The overall build quality is good.
4. The touchpad buttons are soft and give an excellent feel.
5. Absolutely quiet most of the time.
Cons:
1. The display (true life xga) is a little bit grainy. Hp and sony had much better displays with sony being the best.
2. The touchpad is sluggish.(will take some time for me to get used to)
3. Very low high pitch noise form the core 2 duo processor.
4. The screen casing flexes a lot. When i tried to close the lid by holding at the edge I can hear the hinge noise.
5. The sound from the speakers is kind of muffled beacuse the front of the speakers face the bottom.
The sound quality is not as good as hp/sony.
I haven't tested the headphone jack yet. I will post more reviews after a couple of day's use.

Static in headphone jack
The static interference in the headphone jack is noticeable when you keep it silent. It is not coming when there is any signal out of the jack. Also I tried connecting to external speakers and I didn't notice any noise in the speaker. -
i have the 1680x1050..i thought that was the problem screen..but nothing seems grainy to me...however i might not completely understand how u use the word grainy
