I'm about to purchase a vostro and the monitor options have left me confused. The 15" XGA+ LCD monitor option seems to be the best monitor option in both brightness and contrast for the Vostro 1000 & 1500 line. All three other monitor options on the Vostro 1500 have 220 nits and a 300:1 contrast ratio (including the sxga model) while the XGA+ option has 250 nits and a 400:1 contrast ratio.

Why does this one monitor stand out above the other units in the brightness factor, could it be possible this monitor was manufactured by another company ?

If all were equal I personally would choose the SXGA monitor for it's higher resolution. Now seeing the XGA+ is all around brighter, it has left me confused if it's worth the extra money to end up with a dimmer monitor, higher resolution or not.

    Your help is appreciated

I would stay away from the xga+ as I have hard many, many of them have serious grain problems. Personally, my 1500 xga+ had the ugly grain problem as well as at least one dead pixel that I saw. Sent it in for a return today. I recommend not risking it and going with a xga matte or xga True life. The wsxga is probably going to be way too high res for a 15", and also too high res for the vid card to handle well.

remember dell uses 4 or 5 different lcd manufactures.. no way can they gaurantee this spec from all of them... that was probably from one specific manufacture.. there is no way that all of them.. auo, lg, cpt, sec, chi mei etc.... will all make the lcd's meet those exact specs...
