Oh, well, it has arrived at last.
My Vostro 1500 is here. I like it: it's not as big and as heavy as I had feared. And the 9 cell battery is not that ugly, after all. Well, it's not a beaut, too.
And I cannot notice any CPU whine, just the gentle woosh of the fan. But maybe in the silence of the night I will hear the dreadful sound.

One thing is a-missing in my opinion: the user manual. I downloaded a pdf copy from Dell's website but I would have liked a paper-based reading device :)

Moreover: where do I find infors on Dell's BIOS?
I find Vista stard menu a bit disorienting (I come from Win98SE and Linux).
I'd like to know ho to access it, how to access the advanced options, what do different options do. Is it available somewhere for download?
I'd rather have something to read "offline" before actually accessing the bios and reading the online documentation.

    Thanks for any hints.

(I know how this is gonna end: someone will point out that it was right under my nose, in a webpage or a menu I have already visited many times...)

knowing dell, you wont really be able to access any bios options that would do much. I for one cant do anything more than a few simple CPU tweaks and telling it what to load first. If you call tech support they will gladly tell you where to find any and all documentation you need online, and from there you can just print it out.

imo dont mess with the bios unless you know what you are doing... you can access it by holding the f2 key while booting

I did that yesterday, but as the other poster stated, Dell won't let you do anything. What a difference from my desktop PC BIOS.
I wonder if there are 'modded' versions...
