    Hi,

I got a Dell Vostro 1500. If i close my notebook while Vista is on, the screen turns off, but while WiNXP is on, the screen doesnt.

I tried everything i know to fix this, but nothing works... The options for closing are: Do nothing or Go Standby... I chose the first option... but the screen doesnt turn off... With Vista its no problem, before i defintly close the lip/cover, the screen turns black...

    Anyone knows something? ):

You said that in Windows XP, you chose "Do nothing" when the lid is closed? Choose "Standby", click OK and then close the lid, the screen should turn off.

Yeah, but he wants just the screen to turnoff, not the system to go on standby.

I also wanted this and I don't know how to do it. My old laptop had a mechanical device that registered when the lid was closed and turned JUST the screen off. Dell has no such thing.

    What a shame.

I'm interested in knowing too and I'm on XP as well. I've tried several simple script files but the screen blanks very periodically which doesn't serve the purpose of "actually" turning off the screen while processes are still running.

If this thing about the sensor is true, then we should contact Dell. The thing is, I can't remember if the screen turned off in the few days I had Vista. If it's a XP problem, then it's different.

    I don't know, sadly I have bigger problems now...stupid Dell :(
