With my upcoming Vostro 1500, I ordered it with 1gb of RAM to keep the cost down. I am going to install 2gb of RAM on my own once it arrives. Here's my question:

I am looking at 2 options right now. I am looking at Crucial 2gb (2 x 1gb) PC 5300 with CL=5 or Crucial 2gb (2 x 1gb) PC 6400 with CL=6. They are both about the same price on Newegg, so what do you guys suggest?

Basically it's a question on what will benefit me more...faster bus speed or lower latency. Which RAM do you guys think I should get for the best performance? Thanks!

The 800 MHz will downclock to 667.

Even if I have a 800mhz bus cpu? If that's the case, should I get the PC5300?

    Yes - the chipset doesn't support DDRII-800.

Check this out...they raised the price a dollar since i ordered yesterday...but still a good deal after rebate. http://shop4.outpost.com/product/5442679

But yes, stick with the 667mhz, 800 will be no use to you. Bus speed and ram speed aren't the same. And your computer can't take advantage of the lower latencies either.
