I can only think this is common. Planning on getting the X-Fi express card or whichever to take the load away.

Was playing Oblivion and was wondering why my FPS would take a dive (20-25 down to 8-15) whenever I fought outdoors, particularly the wolves. Disabled sound in the oblivion.ini file and it stayed perfectly smooth under similar circumstances.

Then I tried just shooting an arrow indoors. Lo and behold, quick 5-8 frame drop the instant the sound registered for the arrow hitting the wall. Disabled sound, perfectly smooth.

Knocked the channels down 8 in the ini and that reduced the problem, definitely going to upgrade.

Anyone had similar experiences that did upgrade? I saw 2 or so average FPS increases in the review, just wondering about those moments of increased processor/sound processing activity.
