It seems to be a better deal than the 1400. This is my first laptop and I wanted something "solid" and the Vostro seems to fit.

I thought it was worth it with the video card. You cannot upgrade to a video card if a laptop has integrated graphics, right?

correct. the 8400 is good enough for a casual gamer on a budget.
