I made a disc image of my previous laptop with Acronis & Universal Restore and put it on my Vostro. I got everything else working just fine but these are two issues I can't seem to resolve. Another problem I can't figure out is that my Creative SoundFont Synth won't uninstall, I tried the Guru3D cleaner but it didn't work.

All the other drivers for the chipset, notebook software, sound card, card reader, etc, appear to be working just fine. Any ideas?

You know, I think that you can disable the modem in the BIOS and never have to worry about installing the driver for it. That's what I did with my ol' Inspiron. Not sure if the Vostro has the same setting though.

Tried that, just asked me to point to one.

Also, for my Inspiron 6000 I used to use I8KFanGui and SpeedSwitchXP to manage my frequencies and fan speeds. I like to set my system fans to run at lower temperatures so my system stays cooler. Is there anything of the sort for this Vostro Line?

edit: So apparently I8kFanGui does work... it shows vastly different temps for the CPU than SpeedFan that I also tried. Which one is accurate? This one seems to run ~ 8-9 C hotter than my Pentium M 1.86. And SpeedSwitchXP appears to work with this Core2Duo.

XP. Hmmmmm, can't you choose to search the Internet for appropriate drivers?

Tried that with no success. What PCI Device IS there that's not getting drivers? If I knew what it was I could search the web myself better.

Have you checked the Dell Drivers & Downloads page for your model?

Did you try deleting the device?

See if it comes back up. I don't think that is your modem. Your hardware entry for the modem seems to be fine.

Check all hardware items installed in your computer and see if there is an entry for them in the device drivers. Also, check to see if there are any hardware conflicts.

You are going to have to use the process of elimination to determine what device is causing the error to be able to locate the correct driver.

Okay, found this thread over on the Dell forums for installing XP Pro on an M1330. Appears that my problems are in these two devices:
Two problems though: the SATA driver download link does not work, I get a permission denied message from IBM's site. Second, when I attempt to install the kb888111xpsp2.exe patch, I get a Windows error message in Spanish. These two problems appear to be the issues I'm having but the links are dead over there.

Same thing with my 1520 running XP ... and I'm fairly certain I didn't hook up the modem after the motherboard swap.

Okay, got all those resolved. The Audio issue turned out to be the control panel misreading the modem. I thought I had installed the modem drivers, apparently not, once I got those installed the audio device issue went away.

Second, I also was sure I got the PCI SATA driver installed, again, I guess not. Installing that fixed the PCI Device issue.

Now, third problem. This laptop used to have a Creative PCMCIA sound card, so when I restored the image to my ExpressCard Vostro, I uninstalled the Creative software. But, Creative's SoundFont Synth keeps bugging me for a driver. I've uninstalled every reference to Creative I can find, how do I make this go away?
