I just recived my Vostro 1500. A good comp but I have a problem with the fonts and icons.

Right now the fonts and icons are not smooth. They look "rough." Am I missing a setting?

    Here are my specs:
    Vostro 1500, Intel Core 2 Duo T7250, 2.0GHz, 800Mhz, 2M L2 Cache
15.4 inch Wide Screen SXGA+ display with TrueLife LCD for Vostro 1500
    3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
160GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive, 7200RPM, for Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook
    Genuine Windows XP Professional
    Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini card
Dell Wireless 355 BlueTooth Module, (2.0+EDR), for WindowsXP

    Cheers,
    Steve

You have WSXGA+ screen (1680x1050). Due to high resolution of WSXGA+ screen, fonts and icons appear small on the screen with normal settings and Dell changes the initial theme settings to make them appear larger; dpi for fonts, icon size, etc. However Windows XP GUI is not that good at handling such tweaks and especially icons look pixelated. You can tweak the theme settings to fix the appearance of icons and fonts. There was a discussion earlier on this, see below

I would suggest trying the Active Title Bar value as 25 in Display Properties -> Appearance -> Advanced. Hope this helps :)
