I got my third and fourth vostro 1500 replacements
yesterday (one wxga, one wxga+), and I found the wxga+ one has absolutely
no high pitch noise what so ever. I also used my earphones to test the
audio-out, no noise. All other four vostro 1500s I had including the other
replacement I got (wxga) yesterday has noise
    problem.

Do your vostros have Vista, or XP?

Dell claims that the audio jack problem is limited to Vista.

Thats not true, I have tested 5 vostro 1500s some have Xp, some have Vista, and it seems like a hardware problem.

    Just got my Vostro.

It seems like Everything is wrong with the machines was all cram packed into my unit.

    1) the screen is horrid. I can't even stand it, its extremely grainy/dirty.
    2) Horrible back light bleeding
    3) Very loose battery (dont care about this one)
    4) VERY bad high pitch noise. I use Etymotic in your ear headphones, These cancel out EVERYTHING around you and all you hear is high pitch. I press a key, move the mouse, i can hear it. It ridiculous.

Other than the 8600M GT, this laptop has NOTHING going for it. Will try out for 2 weeks.

False. The Vostro 1500 comes with XP by default. You CAN request Vista via phone ordering, however.

I had two replacements (+ original= three) vostro 1500s with wxga+ screens, and one is made by AUO, the other two by LG/Philips. I kept the LG/Philips one and returned all other 4 machines.

It's a hardware issue for sure. I have a 1500 with XP and a WXGA+ (Philips) screen and I have the headphone static/pitch problem.

Insulting people rarely gets you anywhere. Also: you may want to learn grammar before you start accusing others of being idiots.

yea it can play games - but when you play games the sound pops and crackles - so the game thing kinda blows. I hope they recall it.

Also false, kinda. On the online configurator, you have to select Vista or XP before moving to the actual options.
