I'm going to get a Vostro 1500 soon, and I was wondering this is ok:

    -Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    -Windows Vista home basic
-15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display with TrueLife
-1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    -120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    -128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    -Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
    -High Definition Audio 2.0
-56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

This is the "Smart Value Package" and is for $599. I'm concerned about the memory, will the 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz be enough to run vista? I'm thinking of upgrading the memory to 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM, which would cost $150 more. Is this a better choice?

Also, should I get the TrueLife in the LCD Display? From looking at Dell's LCD screen with the TrueLife, it seems that it's brighter and colorful than without TrueLife. If you got a Vostro, did you get TrueLife?

Does this look good? If you also got a Vostro 1500, can you please share your specs?

    Thanks!

Do not do your upgrades with Dell / You can get 4 gigs of ram for around $170 other places and I would add 3 years CC warranty

Yea you can save your self money but buying the ram later and installing it your self. But for now 1gb of ram should handle vista.

1gb of memory handles vista fine. I used it for a while about 4 months, and it ran without a hitch. I was able to run a VM for that period that used 512mb of memory without one hiccup

    Thanks for the replies,

ok. So I won't be getting the 2MB of memory. Where can I find out how to replace the memory card? I've heard that if you want to replace the memory on a Vostro, you'll have to take apart the keyboard? I've looked at some of these memory cards: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=121363 I've heard that some memory cards won't work on certain types of computers. If you've tried replacing memory on a Vostro 1500, which memory card did you use?

What's CC warenty? Is it the "3Yr Ltd Warranty and Next Business Day On-Site Sv"

    Thanks for the help!

    Thanks for the link dicecca,

So you already installed the new RAM into your Dell Inspiron? Where did you get the RAM for your Inspiron? Are all of the memory cards compatible with Dell laptops (more specifically Dell Vostro 1500)?

    Thanks!

Also, It seems like some people are having some trouble with Windows Vista on the Vostro. Will the Windows Vista slow down the laptop? I found this link:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/29/xp-vs-vista/page2.html

I'm not much of a computer person, but it seems like Vista isn't good for running heavy graphics programs. Plus, Vista seems to use up more energy. Should I get Vista or XP?
