My Vostro 1500 was just delivered. I am already considering returning it because it is too bulky. I asked for Windows XP Home. Does it come preinstalled with XP or does it come with Vista and do I need to install XP myself. I am computer literate, but from what I am reading on this board, I may need an MCSE to get the laptop running right with XP.

You're in luck. Dell's policy regarding the Vostro line is that they offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you are unsatisfied for any reason. As far as the OS goes, when I ordered my Vostro I specified XP Home and that's what came installed on it, not Vista. So, that should be the case with yours. You might want to try it out for a week or so if you don't want to go through the hassle of returning it. If it doesn't work out, you can always return it before the 30 days is up and you should be golden. Btw, my Vostro is a little on the bulky side but I love it anyway. You could always go to the 14" Vostro 1400 which should be a little less bulky.

Mine actually feels heavier than my 17" E9400, but I'm using at as a desktop replacement, so not an issue.

Not really, they won't install XP on the 1400. That's why I got the 1500.
It's not that much bigger. I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, a slightly bigger screen is slightly easier to see ;)
