Is this ram compaitable with the Vostro 1500?

    http://www.frys.com/product/5331858

And since the Vostro already comes with 2x512mb, would i be able to do like 1.5G of ram?

if it is compatible, it seems much cheaper even to just buy 2 of those ($50) than upgrade to 2GB online ($150)

I dont think you can do 1.5 gigs of ram if u plan to us 1 of the 512 meg ones it comes with and the 1 gig one on frys. I am pretty sure to use 2 ram they have to both be same size

They have to be the same size to run in dual-channel mode, which is not required for a computer to run. I'd say upgrade to 2GB because you might as well get it over with and not need to upgrade again for a long time, but that is my opinion.

Check out the RAM deals thread, as there are some good listings on the first post.

I ordered the patriot 2gb from dell. So now I can have one 2gb stick and one 512mb stick and i don't have to deal with taking the keyboard out and all that fun stuff right now. So in the future if I want to upgrade to 4gb I only have to buy a 2gb and don't take as much of a loss if i were to buy 2x1GB sticks. And also regarding the dual channel performance hit of this is only like 2-5% but someone also said that 1GB of the ram runs in dual channel mode and the rest doesn't.

    hmm interesting
but thats kinda too expensive for me
do i have to open up the keyboard to upgrade it?
will that be hard or dangerous in any way?
isnt the keyboard sealed somehow or wtv on the vostros?

it isnt that bad... it was 100 dollars shipped and now you get 2.5gb of memory and im sure you could make some money by selling the 512mb stick on ebay. You do have to open up the keyboard since theres one under the keyboard and one under the laptop.
