Vostro 1500 reformat question...

My Vostro 1500 should be coming within the next week and I plan to reformat it upon arrival. I am getting Windows XP on the system and want to reformat that.

I have a couple questions since this is my first notebook reformat.

1. Do I just reformat like a desktop, or are their notebook specific software/drivers that I need to reinstall after the reformat? If so, does Dell send all of those with the notebook?

2. My friend told me that on his Vostro 1500, after he reformatted, his card reader didn't work anymore as Dell does not supply those drivers. He said Dell won't release those drivers to the public so his card reader is now useless. Is there any truth to this? If so, I am seriously considering not reformatting since I will use the card reader heavily.

Any info on these questions would be appreciated!

 

Look on the Dell website (support.dell.com) for XP drivers for the Vostro 1500.

 

Thanks, I will definitely do that. Do you happen to know about the card reader? My friend says his is useless right now and he couldn't find drivers anywhere online. He was told Dell won't make them public which doesn't make sense to me. Any info on that?

Don't worry, the card reader drivers are there. The first thing I did when I got my Vostro 1500 was to wipe it clean and re-install. The card reader works fine.

Thank you so much nizzy! I clicked on all the drivers, I guess I just missed the de******* ion part of it. Anything I should know about the reformat? Do I put all of the drivers on a CD then install them or something? Thanks!
