I am also looking for something which has a nice design, and in terms of that, does the Vostro 1500 have a good overall appearance? how about the Inspiron 1521?

The 1520/1521 looks quite nice IMO with the black lid (if you select that) and silver interior. I haven't had a good look at the Vostro in person. But the main difference in the design is the coloring.
The Inspiron 1520 is actually the equivalent of the 1500. The 1521 is on the AMD platform instead of Intel. If you're interested in games, get the Intel version (Vostro 1500 or Insp. 1520) because they offer the dedicated graphics card. Otherwise, either should be fine. -
i sorta like the all black design of the vostro 1500, I think I'll go with that
