I recieved my vostro 1500 last friday and am very happy with the screen and overall performance.

The only issue that I have is that when i set it to "sleep" in the settings for pressing the sleep button it hibernates. and when I set it so sleep when i close the lid it shuts down.
Can anybody shed any light on this?

you just need to go to the power setting i believe is where it is and change how it "sleeps"

Do you understand the difference between sleeping and hibernating? There honestly isn't much but I suspect you may have the two confused.

lol i'm not a fool, sleeping is suspending to ram while the computers power stays on whereas hibernating syspends to the hdd and turns the computer off. I am not overly consirned by this problem (I can still sleep from the power menu in start), but I just wondered if anybody else has encountered it.

Nobody said you were a turkey sandwich. Try going into the control panel, power options, and reconfiguring what the laptop should do when you press the power button or close the lid. This can also be accessed from the battery looking taskbar icon.

Check your current power plan. If you changed your settings for High Performance but your laptop is on Power Saver or Balanced for example, then your machine may be hibernating when you're expecting it to sleep.

nah i tried all that, think it could be an error in vista. doesn't matter too much as I don't see myself using the sleep function anyway. Is just curious that the laptop won't do it.

I've had the same thing happen. I, too, suspect Vista. GOBBLE-GOBBLE!

Yeh have you noticed that in power management you can look at the nice menu and change what each action does, but you can also change it in the "advanced" power options when editing a power plan? The odd thing is you can set them both to different conflicting modes. I recon the error is coming from there, vista niggle.

If you have QuickSet installed, see if changing your profile there, helps.
