    Hi,

i have a problem. Just got my new Vostro 1700 and installed XP Prof. SP2 on it. When i try to install the Audio Driver (SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio v.5.10.0.5515_RC22-WHQL, A11)

Driver is installed and i reboot the System then, Driver installation continues and i get the following msg :

''ExitError:Error=This system does not support the driver you are attempting to install ''

Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Would be very grateful !

    Very strange.
It installs fine on my XP Pro SP2 install. And the 1720 is just a different looking 1700 AFAIK.

Did you follow Dell's recommended order to driver installation?

I came up with a fix:
Download and install R114075.EXE which most likely will give you an error message but it does something that will allow you to install the driver Dell claims is the correct one. You can now install the correct modem driver also.

Anyway, if I were to guess, I'd guess that not all Windows XP installations have the original Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio but I forgot to check before installing R114075.EXE - I think R114075.EXE installs the original one that works with the proper sound driver.

And I forgot to mention, my XP install CD had the latest SP3 (3311) slipstreamed into it and I've read that SP3 has updated the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio driver.

Thanks pcspecialist!! Thank was an awesome workaround. Worked like a charm. And yes, my problem was also because i had a slipstreamed SP3 version of XP. Thanks!
