I recieved my Vostro 1700 last week, and I love it. I immediately overclocked the video card using powerstrip, and updated the nVidia drivers with ones on the laptopvieo2go website.

Since then I reinstalled Vista, and installed the same modified drivers as before, but I am unable to overclock for some reason. When I try to move the sliders in powerstrip, they revert back to defualt settings when I try to save.

Has anyone ran into this problem? Is there a step by step tutorial for oc'ing the 8600GT?

    Thanks!

I have the vostro 1500 and a 8400 but i'm having a similar problem. I was able to OC with stock drivers but i installed 163.44 and it keeps going back to default like yours. I think it's a driver problem and you have to keep trying different one until you get it to work. I hear the 150.xx ones seem to work better.

The problem is with the drivers, the ones from laptopvideotogo weren't designed for your specific videocard but only modified to work with any card, and are therefor not recognized as the correct drivers. Just download the latest drivers from Nvidia for your 8600GT and you should be able to OC again.

if u really really want to overclock, try messing with the bios.
p.s. im not responsible in any way for any damage ur video card might incur.

Why did you have re-install vista in the first place?
