    Hi,

I am looking for a 17" Dell laptop for my mother. She isnt a gamer & just uses her PC for office type items.

Is there a difference between a Insprion 1720 vs a Vostro 1700? Is the motherboard identical?

If you had a 2.4ghz 1720 vs a 2.4ghz 1700 & the rest of the internals were the same, are they the same laptop (one from home, one from SB)?

    Thanks,
    Rich

I think they are the same laptop except for software package and color.

They are the same you can get all of the same internals in each. My Vostro came with very minimal bloatware though and was cheaper at the time than the 1720.

She has a 15" 4 year old laptop. I dont mind spending more on this one since she tends to keep them for a long time. She wants a larger screen since she rarely (if ever) moves it.

Its basically a hidden desktop for her needs.

Well then you don't really need a 2.4ghz processor do you? Just go with what's cheaper, since they're both the same laptop.

I got mine and I love it...I had an E1705 and loved it as well...I'm very pleased with having the number pad on this one too...I like the solid black better than what I've seen of the 1720's.

Not yet... I won't get it until Friday morning (it's being shipped to my uncle's and he's probably not coming down until then), but I'll post an in-depth review ASAP, if you're willing to wait that long.

I'm just hoping it's not going to be too big.
