Anybody know how I can get a Vostro 1700 with XP on it? I called dell business and they said no way. I assume their must be an xp driver issue with the 1700. All other dells can be ordered with XP.

    Any ideas?

Call again and try a different rep. Dell has all the XP drivers for the vostro 1700 on their website. If they insist it can't be done, you can always install it yourself.

I've tried with Dell on a number of occasions but no they are staying firm with no explanation..XP is just not available on the 1700.

Will they give you the 1700 with no operating system? Like they do in EU? If the xp drivers are available on their site - then you could uninstall Vista and replace it with xp and then have the drivers you need(?).

The cheap Sager is looking better all the time.

Do they? Certainly never offered it when I've enquired about the OS.

Maybe I'm thinking of a Sager bought in Denmark or some other country in EU. But I thought I read someone in this forum had purchased a Dell without an OS. I assumed it had something to do with the strong policies against Microsoft shoving everything down your throat in EU.

But you know? that's stupid. why would someone in EU be buying a Dell? You'd have to pay VAT. Anyway.
