Vostro = equals rebranded Inspiron?

Sorry if this has been posted before... but I really want to know the build quality difference between the vostros and the inspirons in general.

I've the impression that Vostros are simple rebranded Inspirons, but some people here keep on insisting the Vostros are in a totally different league than the Inspiron. This got me REALLY confused.

Any help greatly appreciated.

 

They are very similar, but the Inspirons are more expensive, because they are prettier with the silver body/keyboard and the custom color lid. Also, I think they have more video card options.
However, since the Vostros are billed as business models, they are Dell RoadReady, have a magnesium alloy frame, and are cheaper than the Inspirons. Also, I like the plain black.

 

I don't get people who are saying the Vostro's are cheaper. When I was speccing out my laptop, when I added VAT and Delivery, the Inspiron was cheaper. Add to that the 10% off Dell UK coupon which only seemed to work with the Inspiron, and I got my 1520 around £120 cheaper than what it would have cost for the Vostro 1500.

 

It depends on what deals are out there. The Inspirions seems to get better deals IMO. But there are some Vostro 1400/1500 that beat out the Inspirions. It just depends on what deals are out there that week.

 

It also depends on what country you live in. I think that most of those that Find vostros cheaper come from USA.

 

For the love of god, THEY ARE PRACTICALLY THE SAME! They both have magnesium alloy casing. Vostro lacks a little bit of the media options (maybe video card, bluetooth remote, etc) b/c it's obviously a business notebook.

Is it that hard for you people to go onto Dell's website and see the config. options? There is also a search on these forums.

 

In Canada, the Vostro and regular price is cheaper than the Inspiron at regular price and they have all the same options except there is not IR remote included for the Vostro and, there is no extra bloatware/crapware coming with the Vostro. The Vostro boasts the Strike Zone shock whatever for the hard drive while there is no or little mention of it for the Inspiron. Inspiron's are "prettier", which is always subjective, and slightly curvier.

When I was deciding which to get I noticed that the upgrades were all the same except, at the time, the Vostros were offering 1.8 GHz, T7300's (2.0 GHz), and 2.2 GHz, while Inspiron's were only offering 1.8 or 2.2. Also, I think even currently, upgrading from a 8400GS to an 8600GT on an Inspiron costs an extra $100 while it only costs an extra $50 for the Vostro, and the GMA to 8400GS addon cost was the same for both.

 

Generaly speaking the Vostros are cheaper for some you who wants lower specs 'cause they start at lower prices. Where as someone who wants higher specs find the Inspirons cheaper 'cause they can get more off the more they spend.

Best deals under $1000 = Vostro
Best deals over a $1000 = Inspiron

But they do go back and forth.

 

same as was 'onlycurious' said. I have a vostro. I have looked at, felt, and been around many inspirons. From what I can tell they are exactly the same on the outside (minus the colors). They have the same body, same keyboard, same chassis, same spill guard under the keyboard. Except for the unique configurations on dell.com, they are the same laptop. Just get the one that makes you happy.

 

The only real difference is that the Vostro's have Dell business support...which would be better than the consumer level support.
