I've been using my Vostro for about three months now, and have noticed two bugs that seem to reoccur pretty consistently.

The first is that, when plugged in, the display turns off after ten minutes. I've verified that it's set to three hours, but it still turns off.

The other is that occasionally, the cursor seems to get 'stuck' and doesn't move correctly. This seems to be due to clicking on some sort of object.. and.. I'm not really sure what the conditions are, but it's happened enough that I'm sure other people have experienced it.

Can anyone help shed some light on the above issues?

Are you sure you have the proper power settings on?

BTW, these would be better classified as "windows bugs" rather than "vostro bugs".

    1. You should set it in "Plugged in" mode, then restart !
    2. I'm not sure, but go to Control Panel -> Mouse :
Click on Dell Touchpad, then click on the picture -> Touchpad Settings -> then increase the Touchpad Sensitivity.

nizzy1115: I have the proper settings on. It's set to 'Balanced', and I was modifying/viewing the power settings for Balanced. I wasn't sure how closely these settings were tied to the laptop.

PJ@y-Z: I'm pretty sure I set the options correctly, and the touchpad isn't an issue - this happens while I'm not moving anything. (I should have been more clear.)

I also think that the power cord comes out way too easily, but not much I can do there. :)

    1. HAH. I feel like a dumbass now. It was my screensaver :)

    2. In the post before this I misread your message - the mouse sensitivity isn't an issue, this definitely happens when it becomes 'stuck' on something. I updated the drivers and I'll see if it makes a difference.

    Thanks! (You've been repped.)

Check your Quickset powerscheme also. You may have that setting overriding the Windows setting.
As for the key stuck problem, I think that is due to the PCMService for MediaDirect. Try uncheck it in msconfig.

QuickSet looks okay, and I don't see a PCMService.

I'm thinking the touchpad issue could be related to a buggy DragLock? I might try unchecking it if it isn't apparent that the driver update has helped.

Do you mean the cursor (for text) or the pointer (mouse) got stuck? If it is the cursor, it is likely the PCMService problem. PCMService is part of the MediaDirect by CyberLink which is pretty much disposable. Did you look into Service list in MSCONFIG?

billscho: It's the pointer/trackpad. For the record, I looked again and see nothing that resembles PCMService.
