I just got my replacement laptop back from dell. The replacement laptop's screen is an AUO. However, it seems to be better than my LG philips screen! My LG philips screen seems to be more brighter and a lot less color. For those people that have good LCD screens...how do you tell? When I am at eye level with the screen (applies to both LG philips and AUO screens) 1/10 of the screen is a bit lighter...but I can only tell when the screen is in a black screensaver.

Also, how can I turn up the contrast and the brightness of the screen? I know there's the "Fn" key and then press the "up" arrow keys, but I think that's to change the brightness? How can I change the contrast on the Vostro 1500?

    Thanks!

Ok, I see what everybody is talking about now. The AUO seems to have a "dirty yellowish white" display instead of a "cool" white that my LG screen is giving me. Is there anyway to change this "dirty yellow" white color? (ex: turn up contrast)

i think there are SOME good AUO's, because I think dell buys the bad batches in which some screens failed Quality Control, but not all.

Looks like what you need is color calibration of your LCD. There is plenty of utilities out there which can help you adjust color temperature as well as gamma. Google for something like: Calibrate LCD Monitor - you'll find plenty of information.
