    Hello all,

I have been looking around Dell for options & find these 2 are great - Vostro 3350 or Inspiron 13z - Specs are almost same (i5 with 2430, 4GB, 320GB HDD)

Primary use: will be using the laptop for professional context - heavy MS office (powerpoint, excel), surfing & light photo editing & music. No gaming. And lighter the better as I will be travelling. I dont care much for style etc

The other options : Vostro 3450 or Inspiron 14R - the difference being screen size

    Now my questions:
    a) Is there any particular difference between the Inspiron & Vostro lines. I have been reading that the build & support quality for Vostro is better, while speakers etc would be better in Inspiron? But much of that info is dated

Is that still so? Which one would you recommend?

    b) One difference I noticed is the battery - the Inspiron had 65 WHr, while the Vostro had 48WHr. What does this mean? Which is better?

I think the Vostro has backlight which the Inspiron doesnt.

The inspiron is marginally cheaper of course.

    Oh dear.

Could someone help me with this? Thanks a ton!

The Inspiron 14z has backlight option, depends where you live not sure about the 13z, cant find the 13z on the US website. The Inspiron has the better battery.

If you want something thin the XPS15z with FHD screen looks like a very good laptop to me. Little smaller is the XPS14z.

Get a Latitude E5420/E6420 off the Dell Outlet with the 6 cell or 9 cell battery. Much better alternative than either a Vostro or an Inspiron due to the better build quality.

    This.

At the same time, while I can't speak for the E5420, I find the build quality of the E5x00 and E5x10 machines to be closer to that of an Inspiron/Vostro than a mainstream Latitude. I'd vouch for an outlet E6420... and an E6410 if you can't afford that (as opposed to said E5420).

    - Those screens aren't great for Photo editing.

    - What are the prices of your configurations? There may be better options for similar prices.

    Thank you all

I am currently using a Latitude E4300 (office issued)and I love it. But its way too expensive vis a vis a Vostro/Inspiron - almost double a Vostro of similar config. So I am baulking ...but on second thoughts, I need a good laptop as I going to quit & go on my own - so maybe worth the investment. But.... :(

Anyway. So the prevailing opinion is against vostro!

I live in India (land of the famed Dell call centres  ) Price of my config - both around Rs. 45000 or USD 875 (yes its much more expensive here)
The Latitude costs around Rs. 85000 or USD 1700
I may find brands like Acer with better rates, but others like HP, Sony, Lenovo would be similar. So if I had to look at other brands, any recommendations amongst them?

    Thanks again!

The Vostro is better in your case,as it's more reliable than the Inspiron.Get a bigger battery,if that really matters.
