I ordered an Inspiron 1720 earlier today. (for my desktop replacement) Since then, I've looked at the Vostro 1700 . From what I can tell, it looks like I can get more pc for the money with the Vostro. I plan on using the laptop for internet, my kids schooling, pictures, some music, digital video editing and a little gaming. I ordered the Intel T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache). How does this compare to the T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) that is on the Vostro? What about the display? What is the difference between the Inspirons Glossy, high contrast, widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440 x 900) and the Vostro 17.0 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCD Display. I'm kind of confused as to what the difference is between the business and home notebooks? Sorry, don't know a lot about laptops, and want the most for my money!!!

    Thanks for helping!!!!!!

Vostro 1700 and Inspiron 1720 are identical, except for color and support services. They use same chassis and hardware components. Vostros are intended for business users therefore no bloat ware, and they have a different support/warranty options than Inspirons (home users).

Difference between T7250 and T7300 is marginal at best. Extra cache only comes in to play for heavy processor intensive tasks. For your requirements (internet, schooling, pictures, music, digital video editing etc..) you won’t notice any difference.

yes they are the exact same thing minus the color.. which ever is cheaper for you is the way i would go unless you really want a specific color in the inspiron

imo i would not go for the 7250.. it only uses half the on chip cache i would def at least go for he 7300 which imo will outperform the 7250

Are you really sure that they are exactly the same?
somebody in the tech rep said me that the vostro is made o magnesium, while the inspiron not, and it is lighter and more compact of the inspiron. on the other hand somebody elde from Dell tech rep said that the vostro have more problems thsn inspiron (probably for their motherboard... shouldn't be the same?)
