Ok, I s***w up my first poll, so here's its companion

I would like to compare the temperatures of the two most popular alternative on Vostro laptops, namely the T5470 (base cpu) and the T7300 (the sweet spot on Core 2 Duo offerings)

So, here's the question only for T5470 owners:

After one hour or so of reading, browsing and light editing (like surfing this very forum - no games, no video editing...) what is your (average) CPU temperature?

    1. Between 30 and 45 °C
    2. Between 46 and 55 °C
    3. Between 56 and 65 °C
    4. Between 66 and 75 °C
    5. Between 76 and 85 °C
    6. Over 86 °C

How doe you check on the CPU temp?

There are several freeware programs that do that.
Coretemp is one of them, http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/

Not owning a Vostro yet, I can't be of much help now.
I think that programs like Everest, RMclock and other overclocking/downclocking stuff like that are able to read the cores' temp.

    I have a Vostro 1500 with T5470

Temp is 47 degrees for both cores after a couple hours usage (mostly web surfing)

    Bump.
It seems that the T5470 might not run cooler than the T7300, as I had expected.
My T7300 is running in the mid 30s, max 37-39°C, when used for light editing and web browsing (mostly test documents, with no animations).

It'd be nice to have more Vostro and Isnpiron users to submit their temps to the poll. (I already have my processor, but someone who has to buy a laptop tet might find it useful).

But it also depends a lot on the climatic condition where you live.

Exactly... There's a big difference between an ambient temp of 20C and 30C...

Indeed it depends on a lot of factors, such as the presence of a dedicated GPU or the number of background services running on that particular laptop; the surface onto which it rests, and much more.

The poll can be useful only when the number of submission is big enough to allow this independent factors to be averaged out.

But as you can see from the numbers here, almost nobody answered it (probably because I chose a wrong binning due to my inexperience with moder processors - I should have sliced the 25 - 60 °C range, instead).

The only - loose - conclusion I can draw is that the T7300 does not seem to be hotter than the T5470.

I have read in other, *less credible* forums that the safe Max opperating temp of the T5470 is about 100 deg. Celcius. This seems extreamly high to me, and I would like to know if there is any reason to believe that this processor can get this hot without damage. I am an overclocking novice, using ATITOOL to overclock. I would love any wizdum any of y'all have on the subject. thanks.

Dell Vostro 1500, Intel Core Duo 1.6 GHz (T5470) 3 Ghz SDDR II, 120 Gb SATA HDD, NVidia GeForce 8600 GT. 14.5" WXGA disp. w/ TrueLife.

P.S. My bad for getting a bit of topic of the thread, my Vostro 1500 runs at about 50 deg. Cel. (+,- 2 or 3 deg.) all day with moderate use.

I might be wrong about this...but I really think that there won't be much of a difference between the two processors.

    All core 2 duo T7(odd number; 2x+1)xx are rated @ 35W TDP...and the thermal max is 100C

and with throttling, all processors clock down to 800Mhz when not loaded.

btw...Sredni Vashtar, that is a really low temp...lol

maybe its because i run linux, but the ACPI CPU temperature reads 43C for me.
and it might have to do with the fact that my GPU is constantly doing something (by running Compiz Fusion) and i'm running torrents

Also, if you're interested, loading down my processor and GPU, I have 75C max for the CPU (ranging from 72-75, at 75 it goes down because the bios gives the fan a bump)
