    Hi,

Could people possibly post how many processes are running in their background on Vista? I'm currently clocking the 85 - 90 mark and this has been the case since I got the laptop. The machine came pre-built with some DELL apps which I don;t think I'll use, and Mccafee which I'm keen to uninstall cos it's only a 30 day trial and I can get AVG & Lavasoft free instead, also alot of Roxio stuff which looks like a rip-off Nero. I'm not having any performance issues, just keen to hear what kinda results everyone else is getting.

The number of processes running in background depends upon the applications you have installed. Nevertheless you do have too many unecessary processes.

The best thing you could do is reinstall Vista and then install the applications you require. Once done, go to Windows Defender > Tools > Software Explorer and click Show for all users. Select Startup Programs in Category and disable those programs you do not want to run at startup.

Remember that even the Vostros, having no bloatware, has all the 'Dell support programs', they are probably the source of so many processes.
