    Im getting a Vostro 1500:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
15.4 in Wide Screen XGA LCD Display w/TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    US$775

This notebook is intended for office use, Internet, illustrator, a couple of movies. Im getting it with XP , in the future Vista (when it gets better)

Ive been tempted to get (for a similar price) a HP. However my MAIN concern is the Vista OS. Is it WORTH getting the HP with Vista?

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.10GHz)
Display 15.4" WXGA HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Graphics Card Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Hard Drive 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive edit
    US$830

this may surprise you, but vista isn't bad...

for me personally, it boils down to a vostro vs hp debate. hp installs so much junk on their consumer computers (maybe thats why people think vista is bad... hp is giving it a bad image). took me 4 hours to get the thing clean.

design wise... the hp does look better then the vostro lol

if it takes you about 4 hrs to uninstall all the bloatware why dont you just reformat the pc. It takes me about 45 mins to do a complete reinstall of vista... its the first thing i did when i got my xps... took even less time for me. Honestly i got my xps for $889 back with the 40% off coupons + i got some free stuff thrown when i called to place the order. Sure it took me about 4 hrs after numerous calls to get a rep that would give me the even sweeter deal but i had time to kill :D

Id have to say go for the vostro. Its got a VERY sturdy build (I know ive dropped mine hundreds of feet) and is very reliable. As for vista vs XP its all about personal preference.

What country are you in? In the US store, I can configure the Vostro with the 2.0 CPU, Vista Premium, and an 8400 GS for $798. No way would I take the HP over that.

Took a long long drop in a Shockzero bag. Down stairs of a train station ( good 100 feet ) then it bounced off platform on to tracks. Its actually taken that trip not once but twice. Dropped it hiking a few days ago in Karuizawa ( a remote summer home town ) ... i slipped on mud (ruined my FCUK jeans waaaaaaaaaaaaah) but long slide and bounce once again in the same shockzero bag. It is quite remarkable. (屮゜Д゜ ;)屮 that was the face of our tourist guide when i came back after 40 minutes of slowly decending the bank and working my way back up.
