is it me or are the new vostro's the best valued laptops on the market right now as far as mainstream goes? I'm getting the 1400 for 649 with a Dedicated graphics card! and other nice upgrades, i'm just going to put my own 2 gigs of ram in. Yea i know the card is slow, but i dont want it for speed, i have my desktop, i just want to play my games mobile, go to lan parties and what not =)
-
Haha yes. The one in my sig was only $791.
-
I'm just wondering what kinda build quality the Vostros have... I hope they are built like the Latitude series.
-
what is the catch?!
how different is it from the 1520 series?
why is it soo much cheaper... -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Theoretically they should be built the same as the Inspiron line? Just painted solid black?
And I thought just a while ago people were complaining how the Inspiron equivalent to a certain Vostro was somewhat more expensive? -
They should be built the same.
It's also not that much cheaper. It's if you use the deals + coupons that it comes out cheaper. -
eh i wouldn't say its that crazy, id say its fair for an entry level business laptop.
-
-
Not too crazy considering you can get a thinkpad R61 for about a $100 more.... build quality would be substantially better.
-
None, just went to the small business site and looked on the bottom left of the site and clicked "Smart Values" or w/e, instant $250 off. -
No, I dont agree at all

The vostro is the same price as the inspiron, for the same hardware. Maybe even slightly more expensive.
You get some cheaper choices with the vostro (like a Celeron processor. woot!) but if you compare the same configurations, you see they arent any cheaper at all. -
when configured under a grand it is way cheaper. it only starts to even out once you get into the higher end stuff
edit: actually went through and configured the both the same as above, and the vosotro came out $150 cheaper -
Yeah, try doing the configuration in my sig under $1000 with the inspirons...can't do it.
-
Its almost as if Dell is trying to lure businesses in with the cheapest low-end stuff, and then once they are hooked, rip them off with the medium/high end stuff.
So I guess if you want a low-end laptop, go for the vostro. If you want a medium or good level of stuff, go for the inspiron. -
I'm fine being a low-ender, heh.
-
its all perty much even once you get to the highend stuff. at that point its really a preference between the color of the chasis. it only evens out because of the free 2gb upgrade and 160gb hdd upgrade with the 1520. both are exactly the same, just like the e1505 and 6400

1stStrike whats your estimated delivery date? Mines the 30th - the 1st!
-
For my 1520, the 1500 costs more....so I am fine.
-
yea, i dont need much, as i said, I have a power house desktop and this I would just carry around. Try to find another laptop with a graphics card, decent low end specs and what not. I dont need or want to upgrade any of these things that u mentioned above.

more then half of this to me is a waste of money, why get a high res 1680x1050 screen when... the graphics card isn't fast enough to handle that. -
-
Yeah thats the one I got too! Good luck bro! Going to go change that ram/vid card thing now that it's apparently easy to change RAM on a laptop!
-
Vostro's pricing is so crazy, anyone agree?
