Here
They look pretty meh... Course they are just repainted insprions.
-
thanks, i'll go take a look
-
Hrm. And it says they're designed exclusively for small business... haha... Yeah, that paint job.
-
hmm where is the deal from the front page
-
good catch man!
-
interesting...
-
Yes, awesome find...*please surprise us with an M1710 refresh* : )
-
They look kinda ugly to me...I dunno I'd rather just take the regular inspirons over those...
-
now if only the US site had them up...
-
Can anyone get the E-value Code: 71114CB5AP10 to work?
-
-
They really are exactly the same as the Inspirons down to the graphics card choices. And they don't have the deals that the Inspirons do. I don't see what the point is...
-
Repainted Inspirons....yup.
-
Well if this code goes live (E-value Code: 71114CB5AP10) sometime soon on the site these are the specs
Vostro 1500
Windows Xp Professional
15.4" Wide-Screen with Truelife
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300
2GB Ram @ 667 MHz
120GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
Intel x3000 Graphics
8x DVD+/-RW
1 Year Warrenty
Free Shipping
$1149
add 150 for the 8600gt and that beats the inspiron price -
thanks for the tip OP. i'd agree w/you on the meh factor. oh well. inspiron ftw!
-
In other words, businesses we should not invest in -
-
ell, my bro got his for around $1500. I guess it's not the best deal, but we are unfortunate enough not to be on a very tight budget. I wish we would have waited a bit longer for the great FREE deals, but what can you do...
Also, the Vostros' all black color scheme attracted me at first...not so much anymore -
-
The nice thing is there's a cheapskate option on the Vostro line... for those who need something under $600. None of the new Inspirons are available for that price.
Obviously, the spec on that one isn't too great.... -
The biggest thing I'm seeing is that there are options for XP still! Yay!
-
I am throughly impressed with it, I was about to order an Inspiron, but now it looks like I can get a better machine for the same money, besides, the black makes the laptop less of a target
-
.. not to mention the lack of bloatware, etc AND they give you a free extra battery, plus an upgrade to 10 GB online storage for a year which was extra for the inspiron
-
I think the black is kind of cool.
-
I wonder if this 8600m GT 256 is DDR2 or GDDR3, hahaha!
-
-
which makes them ridiculously strong, no?
-
not quite. They're not full fledged M.alloy systems like the latitudes.
-
-
Yep, it is magnesium alloy..but to what extent does the magnesium alloy cover? Not sure about that.
At least it comes with Hard Drive shock protection.
And Mylar-sealed keyboards to prevent spills.
Not bad. -
so, If I were to drop mine off a building, it would only MAYBE survive?
-
It covers the lid and bottom while leaving plastic for the palm rest area.
-
-
Only Vista Home Basic or Vista Business available, and no 7200 rpm HD's so far. They do support the 8600m-gt though.
I fail to see the significant difference between the vostro and the inspiron, other than with the vostro you are stuck with vista business, and have some business-related software pre-installed... -
-
-
These really make the inspirons obsolete.. no wonder dell was trying to get rid of them with that online rebate
-
-
Also they offer Windows XP. -
Or do you mean there's no metal under the plastic? -
The only differences were for the vostro I could only get Home Basic, and for the HD only 5400, and only 1 year of service
The base price before coupons:
Inspiron 1520
( pre coupons 1877)
Vostro 1500 (1798)
Not much of a savings. $78 savings, but you get a crippled OS and a slower HD, and a year less of a warranty.
Color me not impressed. If I lowered my insipron config to match those options, it would be -cheaper- than the vostro. It looks like they are charging a little extra for the vostro, for the same configs. A "business' tax or something. -
Im getting one, methinks -
-
Dell small business notebooks such as Latitude does not come with any preloaded junkware.
Next, the Vostro comes with Magnesium Alloy casing as Sirius_GTO has mentioned.
So we can assume somewhat more rigid exterior.
Then there's also the dust & spill-proof keyboard with Mylar Seal.
And Hard Drive shock protection.
So it does come with some premium features of the small business lineup along with the performance and specs of the Inspirons. -
btw, why did you go for the wireless-N.. my impression is that most places dont have the N routers set up yet
-
The Inspiron also has some sort of magnesium alloy chassis. I assume it's the same as what's on the Vostro. I'm not sure about the spill-proof keyboard and hard disk shock protection... they may be on the Inspiron too, I don't know. I think they mostly just advertise it more on the Vostro, since it's the business version.
-
Basically the upgrade is the case has more alloy in it? The inspiron I played with was rigid (no bending/flexing like the HP's) - it felt metallic/alloy to me. The rep told me it was alloy.
So the reason they are more expensive for the same system is basically a spill proof keyboard, some bloatware, and you cant get vista premium or ultimate? And a slower hard drive?
Yay. -
I think that its a good thing that they dont offer the 7200 hard drives, the speed makes them wear out sooner, especially if you do crazy things like move around with your laptop
-
That's mainly to protect the LCD.
I assume the Vostro would have the magnesium alloy also on the palm rests too. So it's slightly more.
Inspirons have no such spill-proof keyboard or hard drive shock protection. -
Vostros are up on Dell.ca
